VISITING INSTRUCTOR KARA WENHAM

Kara has been dancing and teaching Argentine Tango in Argentina and around the world for over 25 years, touring the tango festival circuit throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia, including TangoMagia, Valentango, and Misterio Tango Festival in Buenos Aires. As a teacher, Kara has developed a pedagogy designed to empower students by providing tools for solid technique, deep connection, musicality, and improvisation. She builds these concepts step by step, guided by the belief that when something can be explained simply, it can be more effectively transmitted. Her focus is less on the what of the movement and more on the how and why. Whether in an open or closed embrace, Kara emphasizes maintaining a connection that is sensitive, communicative, and sensual for both leaders and followers.

Tuesday June 2

6pm ::: Turning and changes of dynamics Understanding the giro as one of tango’s essential blueprints. we’ll change the normal musicality and play with a range of musical options in both open and close embrace.

7pm ::: Calesita vs. Planeo: Circular movement We’ll explore how to execute both, and understand their differences. Cultivate a clear sense of your partner’s axis, a stable yet flexible embrace, and as always, a sense of play

Wednesday June 3

Embellishments for Leaders and Followers A practical guide to expressive adornments. (for leaders + followers) Explore not only what to add, but when to add it — developing musical awareness and precision, where timing becomes your greatest tool.

The personality of the boleo Is it high or low, fast or slow, elastic or compact? How can we lead these variations clearly and follow them with precision? When does the music invite them? We’ll explore the richness and playfulness of boleos, moving in full swing.

Two Hour Beginner Intensive Workshop

A wonderful introduction to tango or a refresher course for anyone who wants to review the fundamentals or start learning the other role. Clear explanations of basic tango technique, communication, culture and musicality by two instructors with fifteen years experience teaching tango. Enjoy a relaxed and fun evening of dancing and a tango demonstration.

FOLLOWER TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP

Exercises and drills for a grounded walk, stable pivots, proper disassociation with a focus on feminine role technique and embellishments.
Individual technique makes your movements more effortless, improves your balance and increases your overall enjoyment and expression as a dancer. Classes are designed to condition the physical body (tone, control, posture) and expand your body awareness through conscious movement. Training in body mechanics, musicality, strengthening and stretching. A friendly space for asking questions and exploring what you need to develop your dance.
